65 Years of NZHRA Comes to Life at Chrome Showcase

NZ Hot Rod Association Inc have stepped things up at Chrome SHOWCASE 2026 as they celebrate their 65th anniversary!

The "65 Years of NZHRA" display will have its own dedicated pavilion and feature a 40-car snapshot of 65 years of hot rodding in New Zealand.

"It is a unique, one-off way to celebrate NZHRA's 65th anniversary, with a display through the decades celebrating New Zealand's greatest hot rods, customs and, of course, the people behind them," says Zone 2 Director Greg Stokes.

"65 Years of NZHRA" will be a true step back in time as visitors wander through the hall and experience hot rodding through the decades. Some vehicles haven't been seen for 20 years or more, and so far everyone approached to be part of the display has been very positive about what it represents.

There will also be trade sites showcasing the very best of the hot rod industry in New Zealand.

The display is being put together by the NZHRA executive, with a lot of planning between current NZHRA President Barry Dowler and Greg, representing Zone 2. The emphasis is on celebrating the rich history of New Zealand hot rodding.

Interestingly, one of NZHRA's first official displays was held in 1961 to promote the newly formed association at the Epsom Showgrounds - the very same venue now known as Auckland Showgrounds and home to Chrome Showcase.

Vehicles have been hand-selected from all over New Zealand, and NZHRA will also have an interactive trade display with a hangout area for members past and present, including life members.

It is hoped the "65 Years of NZHRA" display will showcase the history of hot rodding while engaging with the public, informing them about the sport and potentially attracting new members to NZHRA.
