Gameplan

Meremere Burnouts will be open to serious competitors only in the Summernats Competition. We recommend basing yourself out of Meremere on Saturday for practise, drivers briefing and meeting our Summernats Judge.

Registration / Safety Checks will be available at Meremere - you do not have to do this at Hampton Downs.

All drivers are to complete the Drivers Briefing at 10:30am and again at 2pm.

All drivers must be ready and staged by 6:15pm. We will proceed to parade up the drag strip and park on the return road. After your skid, you are required to return to the pits where you can change tires etc. Winners may get an additional skid after the competition if time allows.

Event is weather dependant - we will make a call on the day. Sunday is the raindate.

TWO TYPES OF BURNOUTS

Summernats Competitor

If you're a serious burnout competitor looking to take on the Summernats Competition, this option is for you. You will head directly to Meremere Dragway on Saturday for competition practise, drivers briefing with the Summernats Judge, and preperation for the competition.

Fun/Casual

If you're just looking to do a skid or two on the pad as part of your Chrome Entry, the Casual/Fun option is for you! The Jacanna Burnout pad will be open almost all weekend long at Hampton Downs by the Club Circuit for you to make the most of. The competition is intended for serious competitors only.

Judging Information

Image

Summernats Judge: Matt

Matt has worked on the Summernats Burnout Track for over 25 years, starting at 16 years old. He has judged nearly all of the major burnout competitions in Australia and is very excited for this opportunity to head to NZ and see what our best drivers have to offer!

If you'd like to contact Matt prior to the competition for any questions, you can email on nzsummernatsjudge@gmail.com. Otherwise speak to Matt on the day.

BURNOUT JUDGE

The judge’s decision shall be applied as a ‘Judge of Fact’ and are considered final. No protest may be made regarding the decision of the judges. Judging is completed by assessing criteria of skill on a points system out of 100 points.

INSTANT SMOKE – up to 10 points

The start of your run is just as important as the finish. Vehicles that do not produce smoke immediately are allocated less points.

CONSTANT SMOKE – up to 20 points

The vehicle must smoke its tyres from the very start to the finish without interruption. Hesitation for direction change or any other cause will result in loss of points.

VOLUME OF SMOKE – up to 20 points

The volume of the smoke plume produced is also taken into consideration.

DRIVING SKILL – up to 50 points

The driver must produce all of the above and demonstrate skill and control across the entire course from the start to the finish line, including the donut pad. Excellence in the donut pad area alone is not considered to be a good burnout.
Skill will be determined by wheel and pedal work, as well as car pace. *NOTE: Limiter bashing is not a skill!

BURNOUT TIME

All competitors are expected to go for a minimum of 60 seconds. Burnouts that are noticeably short will lose points from the 3 major categories (constant smoke, Smoke volume and driver skill).

POINT DEDUCTIONS

Judges will deduct points for the following:

  • Reversing – minus 10 points

  • Stopping or Stalling – minus 10 points

  • Contact with a barrier – minus 10 points

  • Failure to drive off the pad – minus 10 points
This includes parking off to the side of the pad. Drivers must return to the pits.

  • Large Fire – minus 10 points

  • Tyres Still Inflated – minus 5 points per tyre

All deductions can be incurred at any time between the start and finish.
